Legal, in plain terms
Privacy: we collect very little,
here is all of it.
This site exists to have conversations with travellers and trade partners. It collects the minimum needed for that, and nothing else. The whole policy fits on one page because the practice deserves to.
What we collect
Enquiry forms. If you write to us through a traveller, trade or Partner Trip
form, we store the fields you typed (such as name, agency, email and message), plus your IP
address and browser string — kept for spam control. The data lives in a Cloudflare
D1 database and a notification is sent to our working inbox. We also keep a private
enquiry progress record, including a coarse source category, the content context
leading to the form, your optional answer about how you found us, and staff-confirmed
planning status. This record does not copy your contact details or message.
Email. If you email hello@privatechinajourneys.com, we have whatever
you sent us, in our mailbox.
Website analytics. We measure two things, both anonymously.
Cloudflare Web Analytics is cookieless, collects no personal data and counts page
views, not people. Our own engagement counter is even more austere by design: for
each page view it stores only a running total per
day × page × country × device class — views, summed dwell time and the count
of very short visits. It also counts, in the same aggregate-only way, how far a
page was scrolled (a coarse 25/50/75/100% band) and anonymous counts of button
clicks that lead within the site (no link destination outside our own pages is
ever recorded). It also counts whether an enquiry form or planning example appeared
on screen, form interaction and submission attempts, and broad validation-error
categories. These counters never contain field values. A submission attempt is not
counted as a received enquiry; the form service separately records aggregate storage
and notification outcomes. It stores no IP address, no browser string, no session
identifier and no cookie, so the numbers can never be traced back to a person
or stitched into a journey across pages; the aggregation happens at the moment of
writing. To understand enquiry sources, the page classifies referring domains or
recognised campaign tags into fixed categories such as search, AI, social and
unknown. Only these coarse categories travel in internal links and the form;
complete referring URLs and arbitrary campaign values are not saved. We use the
counters to learn which pages are visited and how long they remain open —
aggregated statistics only (legal basis: legitimate interest, GDPR Art. 6(1)(f);
aggregates retained up to 13 months then pruned). If your browser sends
Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, our counter does not
run at all, and automatic source classification is disabled. An optional source
answer you choose to submit remains part of your enquiry. This site sets no cookies and uses no advertising or
social-media trackers.
What we do with it
Answer your enquiry, prepare a trip proposal if you ask for one, and keep a record of the conversation. We do not run newsletters you didn't ask for, we do not sell or share your data with marketers, and we do not feed it to advertising networks. When a trip proceeds, licensed local partners in China receive the details needed to deliver your booking — and only those.
Your rights (GDPR)
You may ask us at any time to show you what we hold, correct it, or delete it. One email to hello@privatechinajourneys.com with the subject "privacy request" is enough — we act within 30 days, usually much faster. If you believe we've mishandled your data, you may also complain to your national data-protection authority.
Data hosting
The site is served from Cloudflare Pages and our form handler runs on Cloudflare in EU-adjacent infrastructure. Email is processed by our mail provider. Form records are kept while a conversation is live and pruned within 24 months.
